I was never worried about ticks on my own skin, but my dog Basil got a paralysis tick in coastal NSW despite he proprietary brand of preventative treatment we gave him. By the time we discovered the tick, his back legs had collapsed. He ran around on his front legs dragging his back legs behind him until we took him to the vet. He was in no pain, but he did not survive. I have never taken my dogs back to the beach since. I still cannot understand why a parasitic organism needs to kill its host in order to survive. I hate the damn things. 😡

Permethrin is very toxic to cats so if you have cats in the house wash before touching them and don't let them come in contact with permethrin clothing.

How do ticks fall out of trees onto prey when they don't have eyes? Google it....they don't have eyes. I hiked the AT in 2012 and was told it was raining ticks that season. I was never bitten by a tick nor did i see one.

Pulling straight out will NOT work for European ticks, the mouthpart is likely to break off and stay in you. They need to be twisted out, and this cannot be done reliably with your fingers. You need a simple inexpensive 'tick picker' which allows you to easily grip the tick next to the skin and then twist 360 degrees multiple times, which forces them to let go. The tick picker usually holds them firmly, allowing time to decide what to do with them. It's also worth mentioning that with deer and sheep ticks here, you need to survey the bite area for some months to ensure that there are not signs of residual infection, which can be very serious, even mortal in the case of Lyme Disease. And further East (I'm in France), tick born Encephalitis. Not funny.

They do fall from trees and I don't necessarily know how it got up there. I haven't seen them fall like rain but I have seen them fall on people. It's not that difficult to tell the difference between the Aphid and Tick. I have my own park and hiking trails and I know they do because I see it happen. Ticks will go to more than just the head. They like private parts too. Last video he said they could target their host whether raccoon, dog, or deer and would go to that height on the grass or plant. This time he says they (ticks) cannot as it wouldn't be a good host finding strategy would not be a very good strategy for natural selection. I guess contradictions are rife in the educated community to fit a certain narrative. He is right on Permethrin, it work well, but what if you don't want chemicals? Keep your blood sugar lower. blood suckers such as mosquitoes and ticks love people that have a higher blood sugar. So don't eat ice cream and soda pop then go and take a hike or you will be a bug magnet. You'll still have ticks and mosquitoes around you but, like the bear saying, "You don't have to run faster than the bear, just the person you are next to." Notice how Mosquitos always seem to target certain people - this is why - they go after the the best target. We are always releasing scents that tell creatures around us what we are and how tasty we might be. Next - eat raw garlic and get it in your system. Probably won't work if you just started today as it's an immune system changer. It is a serious help to your body, but there are two other advantages here, one it keeps the bugs away and two it keeps the people away! You can find studies on the internet that say there is no correlation to those who consume garlic and those who don't vs being a target of bugs. You can read the testing methods and see how flawed they are, but I won't detail that here. My experience says otherwise. I didn't use to, and would get eat up, and now I do everyday and have no problem of those kind of bugs.

Does anyone believe the first one? Ticks choose their host, that they know whether they want to a raccoon or a dee.? Seriously? I don't think they have that much of a brain to know the difference. They just want a warm blooded mammal to feed upon. Second - they do fall from trees. I have my own park and hiking trails and I know they do because I see it happen. He is right on Permethrin, it work well, but what if you don't want chemicals? Keep your blood sugar lower. blood suckers such as mosquitoes and ticks love people that have a higher blood sugar. While I can't say I've had a tick fall/jump from a tree onto me I have seen bushes up to about 8 feet tall on deer trails with many ticks poised to drop. When I barely brushed the bush on purpose to see what they'd do, perhaps a 1/4 of them dropped immediately even with no real chance to land on me. So they don't seem to have Norden bomb sights and seem to react to others dropping just in hopes that they will land on the victim that brushed the bush while passing by. I've always though of ticks as stealthy surgeons, I appreciate the follow up video here. 👍

If I see a tick bite, I sure as heck am not going to wait until I THINK it has infected me - as it is insane to take that risk. If I find an attached tick, I IMMEDIATELY go get prophylactic antibiotics (usually doxycline capsules). I spent over two nightmarish years trying to overcome late-stage Lyme, and other related problems beyond that! I didn't know what was wrong with me for about 4 months. NEVER tested positive and didn't have a bulls-eye rash - but did find a dead, engorged tick on me - likely, the size of the head of a pin when it crawled on me. IF you have been sick without answers, nothing showing up in blood tests, and think Lyme might be a possibility, do NOT waste time with a doctor not experienced in treating it. Many docs won't take you serious, or they might give you a small dosage of antibiotics that isn't nearly strong enough or treated long enough. Lyme is tricky to diagnose and if testing doesn't show what's wrong, a good Lyme doc, given that they testing is highly imperfect, will treat you to see how you respond. Also note, the QUICKER you get on antibiotics, the better chance you have of beating it relatively easily. Caught mine late, and already had serious neurological symptoms by the time I began treatment. Last thing, once you begin antibiotics, as the bacteria begins to die off, your symptoms may initially get worse, which will eventually moderate - but this is a good sign that the antibiotics are killing bacteria. But, again, this is why you need an experienced Lyme practitioner!

We live in the woods, and a few times I've had ticks above my shoulders... hubby said, no, they don't go high up, it must've climbed up you... Well, if that were true, I would have noticed while they were still on my legs - i can feel EVERYTHING!!! Plus, our big dogs get a lot of ticks along their topline, which tells me that some of those suckers are absolutely dropping down from above! The bullseye bit is true: I had one bite that resulted in a bullseye but it resulted in nothing. Mind you, i just don't get sick, either, so 🤷‍♀️ hubs has multiple bites all over (they do take many months to heal!) but never got a bullseye.

Wrong Ticks, hang onto the bottom sides of leaves, usually up to 4 to 5 feet. We have fishermen, from all over the US, that come to Colorado to fish the Frying pan River. The Town of Basalt, has more varietys, of ticks, than you can imagine. Deer ticks, brown, the borown ticks with a red dot, Texas black, ticks, actually 7, differnt kinds. We had a hotel where the fishermen, hanks there waders, over the 6ft fence, to dry but not washed out, before they come here from out of state, and the foilage is thick and lush. Ive tured leaves over for city officials at 4 to 5 feet, and sue enough, they are on the bottom of the leaves. And Deer wether Whitetail, or Muleys, bellys are at least 3 to 3 1/2 feet from the ground. Always check yourself, after any outing, and each other. Washing your clothes dont get rid of ticks. Ive seen ticks that survived three and 4 wash cycles, with detergent, alive and well.

He's SSSOOOO WRONG ,ticks fall from trees. I use to camp at my friends property several times a year and the area would get infested with ticks from time to time. I had a shaved head and could feel a tick instantly and had the exact same camping spot under a very long and high up branch and I have personally seen them fall from the trees on people with absolutely no wind and the drop was scout 25 feet and the base of the tree was a good 15 feet away.

I spend a TON of time in marsh and forest in Michigan. Permetherin has been transformative, 100% effective in my case. So good, I just wear mid calf socks, shorts, and whatever shirt. I use Deet and Picaridin and can still fail against mosquitos but have been successful in fighting ticks. Before permethrin, I ended up at the DR from a tick dug in my back. I rejoice knowing that my clothing and great are harbingers of death for these psycho tics!
